Action: Call on the Provincial Government to Take Action

This week (August 21-26) the Calgary Housing Action Initiative is asking for everyone to contact the provincial government to push for action on the housing crisis.

Please take 10-30 minutes this week to be a part of this collective action - together we will make a difference!

Points in contacting your MLA:

What We're Asking For

To deal with the current crisis, we are calling on the provincial government to take the immediate, short-term, measures:

  1. Implement Rent Controls,
  2. Increase funding for accessible housing and subsidized housing,
  3. Moratorium on Condo Conversions (in conjunction with the municipal government),
  4. Moratorium on evictions for the purpose of condo conversion,
  5. Legalize "granny flats" "basement suites" and the rest... (retaining health and safety protections)

For the long-term, we are supporting the call for the reinstatement of the provincial Ministry of Housing to give due attention to ongoing issues of housing in this province. The NDP initiated this request and we've agreed that it is an appropriate direction to take.
